Some giants roar.
Doubt whispers.
“Are you sure God is listening?”
“Can you really trust the Bible?”
“What if it’s all just wishful thinking?”
For many believers, doubt is a source of shame. We assume that if our faith were stronger, we wouldn’t have questions.
But the truth is: even great heroes of the faith had their doubts.
Moses doubted he was the
right man.
Elijah doubted God’s plan.
John the Baptist doubted Jesus’ identity.
Thomas doubted the resurrection.
And yet… God didn’t reject them. He met them. He loved them. He strengthened them.
If you’ve ever wrestled with questions, you’re in good company—and there’s a path forward.
Doubt Isn’t the Enemy. Dishonesty Is.
Let’s be clear: doubt isn’t a sin.
But hiding it and pretending it doesn’t exist can be dangerous.
Jesus
didn’t shame Thomas for doubting—He invited him closer.
“‘Put your finger here; see my hands… Stop doubting and believe.’”
—John 20:27
God is not afraid of your questions.
But He does want to lead you through them—not leave you stuck in them.
Why We Doubt
Doubt comes in many forms:
Intellectual doubt — Is the Bible true?
Emotional doubt — Why did God allow this
pain?
Spiritual doubt — Am I really saved? Does God still love me?
Sometimes, doubt is born out of suffering. Other times, it comes from isolation. Still other times, it grows when we live on a secondhand faith we’ve never really wrestled with ourselves.
Wherever your doubt begins, it doesn’t have to end in unbelief.
How to Slay the Giant of Doubt
Bring your questions into the light.
Doubt grows in silence. Talk
to a trusted mentor, pastor, or friend. Be honest. God can handle it.
Go back to the Word.
Don’t just Google your doubts. Let Scripture shape your answers. Start with the Gospels. Get to know Jesus again.
Feed your faith.
Doubt and faith are like muscles—whichever one you exercise grows stronger. Surround yourself with worship, sermons, and conversations that stir belief.
Recall what God has done.
Go back and remember
the times He was faithful. Make a list. Read your old journals. Talk about it in your group.
Take the next right step.
You don’t need to have zero questions to move forward. Sometimes, faith means obeying God even while you’re still unsure. Trust grows through action.
Faith Isn’t Certainty—It’s Confidence in God’s Character
If you’re waiting until you feel 100% sure before you believe, you’ll never get there.
Faith isn’t blind—it’s
based on evidence, rooted in relationship, and willing to move even in the dark.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
—Hebrews 11:1
