Decisions have consequencesShattered Dreams would make a great small group study. Here is an excerpt:People are free to make their choices, but those choices will have consequences. We can plant whatever we want; however, what we plant, we will reap. Elimelech dies, and Naomi is left alone with her two sons. She is alone in a foreign land. In her darkest hour, she is away from family. Her sons take Moabite wives. Mahlon marries a woman named Ruth. Chilion marries Orpah. Ten years pass. Both sons die. All they had left were their shattered dreams. Naomi and her daughter-in-laws didn’t have the choices that women have today. They didn’t have any safety nets or opportunities. For these three women, things looked hopeless. Naomi did the only thing she could think to do—go home. God brought her to her knees and she was ready to return to her family. Her life was spinning out of control, yet God was still in control. Will her shattered dreams be restored? Will she choose to trust in her covenant-keeping God, or will she remain in Moab, devastated because of her shattered dreams? |
