What does it mean for us to try to teach the Bible in a world where the best Bible teacher in the world is available 24/7 on your cell phone? If you have an Apple TV ($69) you can fling the best Bible teacher in the world to your big screen and watch him or her in a larger than life image.

Why should people come to hear Bible teaching in a Sunday School class when they can get the best Bible teacher in the world anytime they want on their big screen?

Why? Because live teaching is always better than video teaching. A good live musician is better than watching a video of a virtuoso. A good live Bible teacher is better than the best Bible teacher in the world on the big screen.

But, the live Bible teacher better be good. If he or she is not good, I’d rather watch the best Bible teacher in the world on TV. This is the pressure on today’s Bible teacher.

This is why many people are staying home. It is not because they are not interested in spiritual things. God has put within the human heart a hunger for Himself. If you had attended as many Sunday School classes in as many churches as I have, you would know that a good number of our Bible teachers are not that good. It is not hard to understand that in a world where people can enjoy the best Bible teacher in the world 24/7 on their big screen, they choose to do so rather coming to so-so Bible teaching in a Sunday School class.

This is why I do what I do. I try to find the best material used by the best Bible teachers in the world and provide it to the 1900+ Bible study teachers that I serve. I find stories used by Charles Swindoll and illustrations used by David Jeremiah, and insights mined by John MacArthur and provide them to the Bible teachers that I serve.

These Bible teachers still have to teach effectively. It seems there is an alarming de-emphasis in the need for effective Bible teachers in this generation. I have heard many church leader say, “We don’t really need Bible teachers; we just need facilitators.” Phooey! We need effective Bible teachers.

Perhaps this analogy will help. The best musicians in the world can write the music. We still need good musicians who can play the music. I have nearly 8000 books in my Logos Bible Software Library. Nearly 2000 Kindle books. 1250 books in WordSearch. If David Jeremiah, Charles Swindoll, or Max Lucado ever mentioned this week’s Bible passage, I will find it and provide insights from the best Bible teachers in the world to the teachers that I serve. I give them the finest ingredients so they can cook a spiritual feast.
