Johnny Hunt: It is all about intimacy

2 Corinthians 3.18 speaks of unveiled faces. “Faces” has to do with intimacy. Christianity is not a religion of rules. It is a faith of relationship. Lovers love to have their faces close. When Paul speaks of unveiled faces he is speaking of drawing near to God in intimacy.

The unveiled face is a reference to Moses in Exodus 34. Moses came down from Mount Sinai with two stone tablets—the covenant law in his hands. He didn’t realize that his face was so radiant it caused those who saw him to be afraid.

Moses had seen God and he was changed. We are always changed when we see God. Seeing God is the only way we are changed.

When Moses spoke to the people, he put a veil over his face so people would not be afraid. When he spoke to God, he removed the veil so that there would be nothing between him and God.

The number one goal of a Christian is to be like Jesus. Nothing trumps that. Romans 8:29 says we are predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son. We become like Jesus by beholding Him.
