That awkward silence

There was just a bit too much awkward silence in last night’s group. I say just a bit because, truth is, I like a little awkward silence, just not too much. If there is a not ever a lull in the conversation the quiet people will never speak up. They are looking for a little break in the action for them to jump in. If you don’t have a little awkward silence, some people will remain silent.

But, too much awkward silence just feels weird. It feels, well, awkward. This is what I love about leading groups. Always a challenge. There are no formulas. It is always a bit of a balancing act.
