Steve Parr: Principle of Rehabilitation

Steve Parr is working on a new book called Sunday School that Really Responds. It is a follow up to his fine book, Sunday School That Really works. I was honored that he asked me to write the forward to the book. He has given me permission to share a few key insights from the book.

Principle of Rehabilitation: The length of the recovery is proportionate to the depth of the problem. Please understand that you cannot resolve in a week what took a decade to develop. Your congregation and your Sunday school ministry have developed a culture over the course of the past few years. Habits can be developed and entrenched which can be healthy or unhealthy. No problem is beyond resolution but some take more time than others. The sections in each chapter on rehabilitation are as important as the immediate responses. Failure to apply these principles will result in reoccurrence of the problem that has been encountered. The overall health of the Sunday school must be continually attended to as well as the isolated problem that you are addressing.
