How Can I Have Peace of Mind?

We live in a very tense, uptight world, which has been called the Age of Anxiety. We all face situations that make us irritable and tense and rob us of our peace of mind. Sometimes tension can be harmful to our health. Tension and stress are a major cause of heart attacks and high blood pressure. Every year more than 500 million dollars’ worth of tranquilizers are prescribed to drop people into an emotional low gear.

Most of the tension we experience is basically the result of an unresolved conflict. If you have an argument with someone at work, you will be tense until you take the time to talk it out. Unresolved issues also create tension in your life. If you have a major decision to make and you can’t seem to decide what to do about it, it is upsetting and frustrating.

Yet there are some practical ways to gain peace of mind, and we learn them from a prominent figure in the Bible. Moses was a man who learned how to resolve the basic issues of life and as a result became a prime example of how to enjoy peace of mind.

Rick Warren, God’s Answers to Life's Difficult Questions (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2008).
